The funny humour specialist Marvin Grey have travelled all over the planet and interviewed several of the most funny people in the world, in the hope to uncover what it takes to be funny.

Mr. Grey says that he is often asked whether or not we have a funny bone. “People are surprised when I tell them, that there is indeed a funny bone in the human body.” Grey says. “It is not actually made of bone, but it consists of cartilage, and it can vary in size from person to person.”

1) How to be funny - Unexpected

Things need to be unexpected otherwise it is not funny, Grey argues. If you read a cartoon strip in the newspaper about a man reading the newspaper, it is not funny if he just stands up and goes to work in the last picture, because it is not unexpected. Okay, maybe it is a bit unexpected for a man to go to work these days, with the recession and all , but let us give you a good example to illustrate how the unexpected can be funny.

When someone says to you “You are ugly as a dog!” - You should reply “That is because I hit myself in the face with a stick every day”, and then hit them with a stick, a rock or whatever you have nearby. This will be totally unexpected for everyone and will be so funny that you could die.

2) How to be funny - Location

Being funny is also about being able to have a sense of situation, when trying to be funny. It is okay to be funny at a funeral, there is no problem in that, you should just choose your jokes with a lot of care. The fungineers in Hollywood are good at making movie jokes at funerals, playing on the unexpected, but they don’t work in real life.

It is not fun to make fun of death itself, but if you tell something fun from when the person was alive. It is now you can tell that embarrassing story that you know is funny, but the deceased didn’t. They can’t stop you now anyway.

You can’t be funny at all if you do not use all three tips, but if I should say that one is more important than the others, I would say -delivery”, Grey argues.

If you are at a funeral you can take away a lot of tension by being funny. If you deliver the joke the right way it doesn't matter at what time during the funeral you do it. The recipient should not be in doubt that you are trying to be funny.

In general; hats, accents, walks and words that rimes are all funny and you should always try to incorporate them in your jokes.
